Dr Arun RAMANATHAN S

Dr Arun Ramanathan is a Research Scientist at the Centre for Climate Research Singapore (CCRS), where he focuses on harnessing Artificial Intelligence to enhance numerical weather prediction (NWP). His current projects include spearheading an AI Weather Bench for the Singapore region and pioneering AI-based blending techniques that merge nowcasting with NWP models for improved short-term forecasting. Before joining CCRS, Dr Ramanathan spent over three years at the Hydrology, Meteorology, and Complexity Laboratory at École des Ponts, conducting extensive data analysis of complex meteorological phenomena and leveraging high-performance computing along with sophisticated statistical modelling to create multifractal-based methods for precipitation, temperature, and hydrological processes. He also analysed geospatial datasets, co-convened sessions under the Nonlinear Processes division of the European Geophysical Union, served on a doctoral thesis monitoring committee at École des Ponts, and peer-reviewed for Geophysical Research Letters and Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics. Dr Ramanathan earned a joint M.Tech–Ph.D. in Earth System Science and Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, receiving the institute silver medal for his work on mesoscale atmospheric predictability using spatially anisotropic universal multifractal models. By blending big data analytics with complex spatiotemporal modelling approaches, he continues to develop cutting-edge forecasting solutions that push the boundaries of NWP post-processing and meteorological research.
