Dr Kashyapa ATHREYAS

Dr Kashyapa Athreyas will work on development next generation data assimilation system for Singapore. His research will include analysing the current data assimilation frameworks such as JEDI and developing methods to integrate new data from space and ground-based systems relevant for Singapore.

Before joining CCRS, Dr Kashyap was working in Satellite Research Centre in the Nanyang Technological University Singapore where his main role was to design and develop satellite systems including designing the mission for Singapore government based satellite missions. He was the lead mission and systems engineer for Singapore’s most ambitious satellite project ELITE, aimed to collect data while flying in very low earth orbit. During this period, Dr Kashyap has also worked on quantifying the coupling effects of sudden stratospheric warmings in the middle atmosphere for which he collaborated with scientists from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder. During his PhD, he worked on developing a model to represent the gravity waves properties generated by thunderstorms in the Singapore region.
