Nowcasting is a demanding field where even modest advancements in rainfall prediction can profoundly impact communities by providing timely, life-saving information. Driven by a commitment to progress, Dr Zhihuo Xu is a dedicated scientist specializing in radar remote sensing, with expertise in polarisation weather radar and AI-enhanced techniques aimed at improving public safety through short-term rainfall forecasting. His work focuses on interpreting radar imagery, uncovering hidden physical insights, and using AI to create more accurate and reliable rainfall nowcasting systems, especially for tropical regions.

As a Senior IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) member, Dr Xu brings a diverse research background that spans millimeter-wave radar for autonomous driving applications, meteorological radar, and synthetic aperture radar imaging.
