Mr CHUI Ka Wing Pluto
Chui Ka Wing Pluto obtained the B.Sc. degree in Physics and the M.Phil degree in Physics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and another M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). From 2024 to present, he is taking a part-time PhD programme in Atmospheric Science in City University of Hong Kong (CityU) to investigate the use of Data driven modelling in extreme weather forecasts.
Pluto once worked in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and trained as a WMO Meteorologist as Experimental Officer in HKO. Before that, he worked as a Software Developer in a cluster and IT solution company in Hong Kong Science Park. During his past postgraduate research studies (2014-2016 in HKU, 2016-2020 in CityU) and career in HKO (2018-2021), he obtained solid experience in numerical weather modelling, machine learning, GIS visualisation and various environmental science IT projects.
Pluto has research and operational experience in using open-source numerical weather and air-quality simulations including WRF, CMAQ, urban scale PALM LES and global chemistry model (GEOSChem) in Linux, especially the open Source CFD software OpenFOAM used in urban scale air flow simulation.
