Dr Timothy SHAW

Dr Timothy Shaw is Deputy Principal Research Scientist in the Climate Change Impacts Branch of the Department of Climate Research. His research focuses on sea-level rise and coastal environmental change across temporal (palaeo, instrumental, and future) and spatial (low-, mid-, and high-latitude) scales. This work complements a multidisciplinary team of scientists working collectively to deliver and communicate climate science in support of government decision-making.

Prior to joining CCRS in 2026, Dr Shaw obtained his PhD from the University of Liverpool, UK, and worked as a postdoctoral scientist at Rutgers University, USA. In 2017, he moved to Singapore as a Senior Research Fellow at the Asian School of the Environment and Earth Observatory of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University. There, he was closely involved in a range of sea-level research initiatives — including the National Sea Level Programme and the Southeast Asia Sea Level Programme — aimed at improving understanding of sea-level changes and their driving processes, thereby constraining uncertainty in future sea-level rise projections for Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region.

Dr Shaw maintains an active research portfolio and collaborates closely with experts at national and international levels to produce impactful research.
